North East Quartet Bound For World Cup – Jack Nixon

Four over 50’s from the North East have been named in the Scotland Seniors Over 50’s squad to play in the World Cup for their age group in India next February. Huntly are  particularly well represented, as Frank Summers and Andrew Petrie are included in the pool of 16.

It could well have been three from the Castle Park set up, had Michael Louw not made himself unavailable due to his decision to visit his ageing mother in South Africa over the winter, reasoning she came first, and that at 53 he was still young enough to gain a Scotland cap before he reached the age of 60.

Louw was, however, delighted for his two team mates who will make the trip. ”It says a lot about the high standard of players here at the club, and their levels of fitness in their 50’s. As two good all rounders, they will be major assets in what will be very different conditions from Castle Park,” said Louw.

The same could be said of the other two North East reps. Johnny Barrett of Ellon Gordon who is best known for his prolific batting feats, but can also be relied upon to turn over his arm to good effect when required, while Neil McHattie, formerly of Cults during a period of prolonged success, makes up the formidable quartet.

Nearer the time of the event, we hope to provide detailed profiles of the four, in addition to producing the itinerary for the competition. In the meantime, they have our warmest congratulations, leaving us lesser mortals to contemplate another annual Grades Dinner on Friday November 6th at Mannofield.

In the run up to the dinner, I will reflect on some of the recent highlights; thus whetting your appetites for the main course.
