Not for the first time, the weather had the last say in a frustrating day at Inverurie last Sunday where the finals of the Bon Accord and Reid Cup were played on the excellent track prepared by the Kellands Park ground staff.
The promised rain stayed away long enough to enable Aberdeen Tigers to win the Bon Accord Cup at the expense of 2nd Knight Riders in a high scoring game, but arrived too soon to allow Ceylon Deeside and Ellon Gordon to complete the final of the Reid Cup. They go again at Inverurie with a 1pm start this Sunday.
The compensation for the supporters of the two T20 games was a cracking contest in the completed final in which Mynul Nadim starred for Aberdeen Tigers after being put into bat by the Groats Road second strings. Nadim made good use of getting to bat first on the even paced wicket, hammering an unbeaten 98 from 66 balls, hitting 10 fours and four sixes in his side’s 166 for the loss of seven wickets, confirming his fine reputation as one of the most destructive batsmen in Grades cricket.
Captain Zakir Hussain valiantly attempted to restrict the Tigers, ending up with the respectable figures of three for 28.
Given the awesome target set them Knight Riders made a brave fist of their reply, coming within 16 runs for the loss of eight, but had no one in their side with Nadims’ striking prowess.
