From 1893 until the end of 1911 what is now Grade 1 was called the Senior League. From 1906 the winners of the Senior League were presented with the Bain Cup, a trophy that since the introduction of Grade Cricket in 1912 has continued to be awarded to the winners of the premier Grade. The Bain Cup was presented to the Association by Alexander H. Bain.

Since this trophy came into existence it has been extremely easy to verify the names of the winners by checking the names engraved on it over the years. Prior to 1904, in the years 1901-1903 inclusive, the Aberdeenshire Cup was played under League rules. From 1898 to 1900 the Senior League had dropped out of existence and a similar gap appears during the years 1890 to 1892, inclusive, when there is no record in existing documents to say whether the Senior League existed and if so which teams were its winners.

When the Senior League recommenced in 1904 there were several clubs competing all from within a radius of twenty miles of Aberdeen. When Mr. Bain presented his trophy in 1906 the League had been extended in its boundary restriction to permit Huntly to compete. Huntly duly showed their appreciation by becoming the first club to win the Bain Cup. Huntly were also to create a unique double by becoming the first Grade 1 side to win this trophy when Grade Cricket was introduced in 1912.

Like the Senior League, the Junior League started in 1893 and continued under that title until 1911. When Grade Cricket was introduced the following season, the Junior League became Grade 2. During the first two seasons of its existence no trophy was awarded to the winners of the Junior League, but thanks to the clubs involved and their friends, a cup, appropriately named the Junior League Cup, was purchased in 1895 and has been competed for ever since. The first winners of the Junior League Cup were Clifton.

The Bon-Accord Cricket League was started in 1898 and operated entirely outwith the control of Aberdeenshire Cricket Association until season 1911. For the first three years of its existence no trophy was awarded to the winners of this league, although the winning team did receive badges. In 1901 C. R. Davidson presented a cup to Aberdeen District League while H. Ross presented another to the Bon-Accord League. However, when the officials were getting the two cups engraved a mix-up occured and, as a result of this, the C. R. Davidson Cup became the Bon-Accord League Cup, which until season 1953 was played for by teams in Grade 3. From 1954 Grade 3 teams have been playing for the cup they were originally intended to play for - the Ross Cup.

At the end of season 1911, all outside leagues came under the control of Aberdeenshire Cricket Association and what had been the Bon-Accord League became Grade 3 when Grade Cricket was introduced in 1912.
