Former players of a certain vintage were saddened to learn of the death of Bert Cadenhead in Inverurie on 10th April. He was 86 and regularly seen in the town centre, still taking a lively interest in sporting matters. Bert captained and kept wicket for Inverurie with distinction towards the end of his playing career in the mid-Seventies before retiring to take up umpiring. As a teacher at the Academy he was a great source of encouragement and support to young cricketers and footballers.
Bert, or Hebbie, started his cricket at Stoneywood in 1957, and was remembered for being instrumental with his brother Andy in establishing that club’s long and successful tradition in the seven-a-side version. He was also an outstanding junior footballer.
