Sunday saw the conclusion of Grades league business for 2019. Siyapa made the trip to Fraserburgh keen to take the Grade 2 title in style, but heavy showers delayed any play and eventually all hopes of a game were abandoned. Siyapa returned to Aberdeen well fed and with Grade 1 play in the bag for 2020.
Gordonians defence of the 3 Counties Cup started well against Arbroath. Himanshu Saraswat took 2 wickets as he bowled his 4 overs for only 8 runs, and Arbroath struggled to 27 for 4 off 8 overs. 31 from Ferdie Snyman hauled Arbroath up to 93 for 6 off their 20 overs. None of the Gordonians batsmen adapted to the slow outfield but they still made it 79 for 6 off 17 overs. 15 to win off 3 overs with wickets in hand is normally a given, but the Arbroath bowlers had other ideas and Gordos found it hard to get bat on ball as they could only muster 8 runs off the last 3 overs.
Having knocked out the champions, Arbroath couldn’t produce the same level of performance against Dundee High in the final, and the 3 Counties Cup will reside at Dalnacraig until next season.
